0-100% in 10 minutes: Toyota will introduce a new electric car

Toyota has published a short video teaser, which announced the imminent expansion of the model range. The video ends with the slogan Beyond Zero, chosen for the Japanese brand’s eco-friendly line. Judging by it, her firstborn appeared on the teaser.

According to preliminary data, the pioneer of the Beyond Zero line, or BZ, will be an all-wheel drive electric crossover, similar in size to the Toyota RAV4 SUV. Back in December, the company showed the first teaser of the model, and later its patent images were leaked to the Web. However, if the schematic silhouette on a fresh video is similar to the previously published one, then the electrocross on patents is strikingly different in the design of the front end: it has different optics, the hood line and the location of the nameplate.

The novelty, like other BZ electric cars, will be built on the e-TNGA platform, developed by Toyota in cooperation with Subaru. The architecture, which is an electric version of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) “bogie”, allows the engine to be placed in the front, rear or on both axles, use batteries of different capacities, and also vary the length of the wheelbase.

According to unconfirmed reports, the crossover will be equipped with a 290-strong installation and a battery that will provide up to 500 kilometers of travel without recharging. Also, the novelty is promised ultra-fast charging: from zero to 100 percent in just 10 minutes.

The BZ lineup will include five “green” models, the names for which have already been chosen. Last week Toyota registered the BZ trademark in Europe, as well as seven names for future new products: BZ1, BZ2, BZ2X, BZ3, BZ4, BZ4X and BZ5. X at the end of two names may indicate a twin-engine power plant.

The first Toyota BZ car will debut before the end of the month: it will be presented at the Shanghai Motor Show, which will be held from 19 to 28 April, and Europe will be the first market. It is expected that later in the lineup there will be vehicles of various classes – from sedan to van.
