33 General Motors plant stopped its production

Media reported that more than 46,000 employees in GM at midnight Eastern time were away from their jobs. The local Union will continue negotiations with the leadership of the group at 10 a.m. on September 16.

General Motors was in serious trouble with the local Union and the Association of workers of the UAW (United Auto Workers). Over the weekend, the Association officially announced the launch of a large-scale strike in the night from Sunday to Monday, 16 September 2019, 46,000 people left their jobs at GM plants. Vice-President of the Department of the UAW-GM, called the move a “last resort” in the negotiations with the leadership:

“This is a big sacrifice and great courage on the part of our members and all of us,” commented Ditches.

The reason for the strike was the demand of the trade Union to increase wages, benefits and expand the number of jobs in the United States. Moreover, GM sent a new offer to the Union on Saturday night. However, it did not suit the representatives of the United Auto Workers. On most issues the UAW and GM is not even close to come to agreement.

At the same time, GM claims to have made a strong offer of new wages and benefits. According to preliminary estimates, 10 hours of downtime will cost the company at least $ 50 million.

Do you think the employees do the right thing?
