46 000 units per year Hyundai plans from 2020 to produce Kona Electric in the Czech plant

According to Korean media, Hyundai plans to produce all-electric Kona at its Czech plant with the first half of 2020. Still Kona Electric was made in Korea and exported worldwide. This will be the first electric car of Hyundai, which will be produced outside of their country.

Accordingly, Hyundai wants to release a hybrid version of the Tucson (Tucson Tucson Hybrid and PHEV) in the Czech Republic, but 46 000 units of Electric Kona next year – almost the same as would be produced this year in Ulsan, South Korea (48 000).

The Czech plant in Nosovice will become the production base for environmentally friendly cars abroad, and Hyundai wants to invest about 80 million euros in its transformation. Most of the money will be invested this year, as mass production should begin in the first half of 2020.

With production in Europe, Hyundai can significantly reduce long waiting times of their compact electric crossover, provided that the Koreans will have enough batteries. Electric cars produced in Korea, is using batteries from LG Chem. The Korean company also controls the production of batteries in Wroclaw, Poland.
