The German company Alpina has presented a novelty: B8 Gran Coupe with a modified design, retuned suspension and an uprated engine. The sedan in the M850i modification was taken as a basis, equipped with a V8 4.4 engine with two turbochargers, the power of which was increased from 530 to 621 horsepower. As a result, the four-door accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.4 seconds, just 0.2 more than the sporty BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe requires.
There are enough improvements in the technical part: Alpina engineers reconfigured the 8-band automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system, a limited-slip differential appeared at the rear, and adaptive shock absorbers were added to the suspension. Also, the sedan has got reinforced anti-roll bars and Brembo brakes: in front with four-piston mechanisms and discs with a diameter of 395 mm, and at the rear – with single-piston mechanisms and 398 mm discs.
The 4.4-liter V8 engine produces 621 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. With this engine, the Alpina B8 Gran Coupe accelerates to “hundreds” by 0.5 faster than the “donor” M850i, and the top speed of the sedan is not limited by electronics and is 324 kilometers per hour. Thus, according to the passport, the novelty is able to overtake the four-door M8 Competition with a 625-horsepower engine, the limiter on which is triggered at around 305 kilometers per hour.
Exterior differences from the standard M850i include a front bumper with Alpina lettering, a new rear diffuser, two pairs of exhaust pipes and 21-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.
A digital instrument panel with branded graphics and the company logo is installed in the cabin, and on the central tunnel there is a “washer” of the iDrive controller, made of glass, on which the Alpina emblem is laser engraved.
The prices for the new product for the German market have already been announced: in Germany, the Alpina B8 Gran Coupe can be ordered for 161 thousand euros. For comparison, the BMW M8 Competition is more expensive: from 167 thousand euros. The B8 Gran Coupe will arrive in the US later.
