It will debut at the April Shanghai Auto Show, two years after being announced at the same event, according to a new report.
Automotive News reports that the German concern will unveil two versions of the ID6 X and ID6 Cross electric vehicles at an exhibition in Shanghai. Both will be produced by the company’s two joint ventures in China and sold in China as more affordable alternatives to the Tesla Model X.
Along with the ID6 X and ID6 Cross, the brand will unveil a seven-seater SUV specially designed for the Chinese market at the Shanghai Auto Show. ID.6 can also be marketed in the US market. However, VW has made it clear that it has no intention of selling the ID.6 in Europe.
Like the rest of the Volkswagen ID family, the ID.6 will ride on the MEB platform. The concept is powered by an electric motor with a maximum horsepower (225 kilowatts) and an 82 kilowatt-hour battery for an estimated range of 450 kilometers in the WLTP test.
Mass production of the ID.6 for the Chinese market should begin shortly after the Shanghai Auto Show. If he gets the green light, he will probably arrive in the United States next year.
