Peugeot has a long history of racing, over the past 40 years they have won the WRC team championship 5 times and 4 times in the individual, won the 24 Hours of Leman daily marathon 3 times, became Dakar champions 7 times and took the podium in the national rally series countless times.

Today we have a Peugeot 508 PSE on the test and it is not so much a killer Audi S5 or BMW3 M40i, as a presentation of technology and the experience of engineers, it tells us which way the whole automotive industry of France is moving. And in addition to the chosen direction of hybridization with subsequent full electrification, she also puts huge bets on external attractiveness and originality. An ordinary Peugeot 508 2021 is not only a car on which you stop your gaze, it is also a car that you are trying to get into and the Peugeot 508 PSE once again emphasizes all these same views and concepts.

The external differences between the Peugeot 508 PSE and the Peugeot 508 are: color – special colors only for this model, another radiator grille, body kit and green inserts, the so-called “wings” look cool from the bottom of the bumper, there is a similar solution on the rear bumper, there are emblems in the spirit of tiger claw marks all over the body, well, black linings on the exhaust.

There are even fewer differences in the interior, in general it is the same interior as a regular Peugeot 508 GT, there is the same big screen, the same tree on the torpedo, the same steering wheel, the same cluster of instrument panels. The only difference is the green stitching in the color with inserts that are used in the exterior design and slightly different materials — leather, alcantara, and fabric are used in the seats. Separately, we would like to note that the front seats are very comfortable with good lateral support.

There is enough space in the cabin, but there is still a slight tightness, plus not very good visibility due to the sufficiently wide front rack.

The multimedia system has not changed either — it works fast, the response is clear, the menu is clear and convenient, Apple Car Play and Andriod Auto are present. I really liked the sound of the FOCAL speaker system.

Peugeot 508 PSE Powerplant

The Peugeot 508 PSE powerplant consists of a 1.6 l internal combustion engine with a capacity of 200 hp and 300 Nm of torque pole two electric motors: the first is located in front, its power is 100 hp, it is integrated into an 8-speed AISIN automatic transmission, the second is located in the rear, its power is 113 hp and it is located directly on the rear axle.

The total power of the power unit is 360 hp and 520 Nm of torque.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km /h with a charged battery was 5.6 s. This is a very decent result and practically coincides with the declared manufacturer.

With a fully discharged battery, the Peugeot 508 2021 accelerates to 100 km / h in 6.2 s. This is also an excellent result, given that competitors in a similar situation are much worse.

Peugeot 508 is able to drive up to 42 km on a single charge, and charge its 11.5 kWh battery in 7 hours from a regular outlet, in 4 hours from a 16-ampere and in less than 2 hours from a 32-ampere wall-box.

Fuel consumption in urban mode with a charged battery was about 5 liters per 100 km, and with a discharged one – about 8 liters.

Suspension, steering and brakes Peugeot 508 2021

The suspension of the Peugeot 508 PSE is very precise, very clear, very quiet and with minimal vibrations works out all the joints and bumps of the road, we really liked its behavior, it passes the pits quite gently and holds the road perfectly at high speeds.

Steering in Peugeot 2021 is very accurate and informative, even though there is no rack with a variable gear ratio installed here, it is a great pleasure to drive a car.

But we did not quite understand the work of the gas pedal, it is not informative enough and we did not always manage to accurately dose the acceleration.

Everything is just fine with the brakes of the Peugeot 508 — slowing down from 100 to 0 km/h took only 35 m.

Peugeot 508 PSE is a demonstration of what French designers are capable of and it is very important how it will be in the future. This is not a revolution in the automotive industry, it is a gradual, logical evolution and many car manufacturers are also going the same way, the competition in this segment is very large and Peugeot 508 is one of the favorites, it has all the qualities to succeed.
