Honda Motor has unveiled the Acura NSX Type S, a farewell special edition of its flagship sports car. Production of this modification will continue until December 2022. It is planned to build 350 units: 300 for the US market, 30 for Japan and 20 for the rest of the world.
The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 has increased from 507 to 527 hp and torque from 550 to 600 Nm. This was achieved through the use of new turbochargers from the racing NSX GT3 Evo, more efficient injectors and a larger intercooler.
In the NSX hybrid system, engineers have increased the battery capacity by 20% and its maximum efficiency by 10%, which allows the three electric motors to consume more power (exact data not published). As a result, the installation produces a total of 608 hp. and 667 Nm (+27 HP and +22 Nm compared to the regular NSX).
The nine-speed “robot” has learned to shift up to 50% faster. The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD all-wheel drive system now has more precise control of the thrust vector, which has helped to improve cornering speed.
The engineers of the Japanese brand reconfigured all four driving modes (Quiet, Sport, Sport + and Track), and also updated the adaptive suspension calibrations. Pirelli P-Zero tires in 245 / 35ZR19 front and 305 / 30ZR20 rear have been released especially for NSX Type S.
Acura does not publish information on acceleration dynamics or top speed. But thanks to the improvements, the NSX Type S passes the Japanese Suzuka circuit two seconds faster than the standard NSX.
In the US, the base sports car price will be $ 169,500. For an additional $ 13,000, it offers to buy the Lightweight Package, which includes Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon-fiber engine cover and interior inserts made of the same material. These elements reduce weight by 26.2 kilograms.
