The wait is almost over: Acura has announced that the 2021 TLX Type S will go to dealerships this May. The car, which will be the first Type S in over a decade, will be powered by an all-new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 355 horsepower. and 480 Nm. It is paired with a sport-tuned 9-speed automatic transmission and Super Handling all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.
TLX Type S features double wishbone front suspension with multi-link rear suspension and adaptive dampers. The model is equipped with 20-inch wheels with 4-piston Brembo front brakes and available Pirelli P Zero Summer tires. There is an exclusive Sport + driving mode that has been specially designed for added performance and driver enjoyment.
Full details will be announced closer to launch, but the Type S has a sportier appearance with an open grille with a diamond pentagonal grille that provides increased airflow. The model also has a front splitter, a rear spoiler and an exhaust system with four tailpipes that are separated by a diffuser. Rounding out the highlights are LED lighting and an exclusive Tiger Eye Pearl paint.
Aside from the sporty look, the TLX Type S is quite luxurious as it features 16-way heated and ventilated front seats and ultra suede upholstery. Drivers will also find a 10.2-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Rounding out the highlights are the flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminum trim and ELS Studio 3D 17-speaker sound system. It also features interior lighting, a wireless smartphone charger and a suite of AcuraWatch driver assistance systems including Traffic Jam Assist.
