By 2040, the Volkswagen car company plans to make all of its vehicles environmentally friendly. At the same time, the concern wants to increase its profit from 7% to 9% by 2025, which will eventually help to transfer all the cars of the brand to one architecture.

The company currently uses the MQB platform for Volkswagen Golf models, the MLB platform for cars such as the Audi A7, the MSB platform for the Porsche Panamera, and the MEB platform for Volkswagen ID.4 cars.

Over the next ten years, the company intends to completely abandon platforms with internal combustion engines, after which two electrical platforms will be merged, which will be called SSP. The first car built on this base is slated to be shown in 2026 as a follow-up to the Audi A8.

In order to launch new platforms, Volkswagen has already created the CARIAD software block, focused on three main software platforms. E3 1.1 will be able to produce over-the-air updates for vehicles on the MEB platform.
