Lexus has shared the first images and teaser video of the future electric car, which will hit the market under the name RZ. It is known that the novelty will be the first model of the brand, built on the e-TNGA architecture, which is already used by the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra soplatform crossovers. The new Lexus electric car will differ from the bZ4X and Solterra with a unique design and positioning: Mercedes-Benz EQC is expected to compete with RZ.
On sketches and videos, you can see some of the design features of the RZ: it received a plug instead of a radiator grill, head optics in the Lexus corporate style, narrow taillights and a small spoiler on the tailgate. It is known that the novelty is the serial embodiment of the LF-Z Electrified concept, which debuted this spring, but it did not inherit from the show car either pull-out door handles or cameras instead of exterior mirrors.
For bZ4X and Solterra, two versions were announced, with one and two electric motors on the front and rear axles (in the second case, their total output is 218 horsepower). They are powered by a battery with a capacity of 71.4 kilowatt-hours, which provides a power reserve of 460 kilometers on the WLTC cycle. The Lexus RZ will probably be technically unified with Toyota and Subaru models, and the Direct4 all-wheel drive system was previously confirmed for the electric car, so most likely we are talking about a version with a twin-engine power plant.
According to preliminary data, the Lexus RZ electric crossover will hit the market by the end of 2022. In addition to the Mercedes-Benz EQC, it will compete with the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 e-tron and Genesis GV60.
