At the Barrett-Jackson auction, an unusual lot has ended: the 42-year-old Porsche 928 sports car, which took part in the filming of the 1983 film Risky Business starring Tom Cruise.
A Porsche 928 coupe sold for $ 1 million 980 thousand: according to the auction house, this is the largest amount ever paid for a Porsche 928 model.
Recall that during the filming of the film “Risky Business” several identical machines were used, but the copy put up for auction “worked in the frame” more often. In addition, it was this car that participated in the shooting of the chase scene, which is considered one of the most famous in modern cinema. Porsche 928 salespeople claim that this car has also become a kind of simulator for Tom Cruise: in this sports car he mastered a manual transmission for the first time.
In 1979, the Porsche 928 came off the assembly line white, but it was repainted for filming. The compartment belonged to a private owner and was kept in a controlled microclimate room, not counting the periods when the sports car was exhibited in museums or participated in various events. It is also reported that the Porsche 928 has undergone a comprehensive restoration.
The sports car is equipped with a 4.5-liter V8 engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. It is generally accepted that the director Paul Brickman chose to shoot the Porsche 928 in his film instead of the Porsche 911, as, in his opinion, the 911 was not impressive enough.
