An affordable alternative to the Octavia Combi: now officially


A full presentation of the new “shed” the Baojun brand will be held this summer. Earlier models predicted only the turbo, but, according to recent figures, the basic “aspirated” too.

The appearance of the wagon Baojun RC-5W (the last letter, obviously, means Wagon) revealed in may, then a photo of the car made in the base of the Chinese Ministry of industry. Front “barn” copies liftback: both models have bunk optics (located on top of the led strips daytime running lights, lower blocks of the main headlights) and radiator grille with chrome “touches”. The lights are also the same, but the rear bumper from RC-5W his – reflectors made wider and raised above the notch for the license plate “flipped”.

The length of the wagon is equal to 4685 mm, 35 mm more than the liftback. Height, apparently due to rails increased by 27 mm to 1485 mm. the Width and wheelbase are the same – 1806 and 2700 mm, respectively. Thus for its size the new family Baojun close to the Skoda Octavia last generation (length and liftback, and station wagon Skoda – 4689 mm, wheelbase – 2686 mm). Alas, the boot capacity Baojun RC-5/RC-5W is still not named (at Octavia – 600/1555 litres, the Octavia Combi 640/1700 liters).

The Chinese cabin “shed” not yet lighted. However, inside the station wagon probably repeated the liftback, and that, in turn, got the interior in the style of the compact MPV Baojun related RM-5: installed inside dvuhsvetnoe steering wheel and touch control unit “climate”, the air vents on the driver side and passenger made in the form of horizontal stripes, the Central air ducts – vertical (one of them virtual parts “tidy” and a touchscreen multimedia system).

Liftback is equipped with a gasoline-liter “aspirated” and “turboservice” capacity of 99 and 147 HP respectively, of the box – “mechanics” or variator. Published in the spring of the documents of the Ministry of industry of the PRC for RC-5W was announced turbo. Now, however, the local media write that the “barn” and got the base engine. The drive in both models, of course, only a front.


The prices for the liftback needs to announce in August, at the same time, you will probably see the price list wagon. Most likely, the “piatigorski” Baojun will be much cheaper Skoda Octavia. By the way, the new Octavia is just getting ready to enter the Chinese market, that is, it will probably be more expensive than the previous generation the previous liftback from the Czech brand in China today is from 99 900 yuan ($14 300), and the universal there is only available as a “crossover” Scout at a price of 131 400 yuan ($18 800).

Outside of China brand Baojun not represented, which, however, does not prevent to sell its model in other countries under other brands. Thus, the Baojun SUV 530 in Latin America and the middle East is positioned as the Chevrolet Captiva of new generation in India is MG Hector. A crossover Baojun 510 recently reincarnated in the Chevrolet Groove (also designed for Latin America and the Middle East).
