Mazda has shown a lightweight version of the Roadster (in Japan, this is the name of the MX-5 / Miata). The special version was named 990S and is the lightest modification of the current ND generation.
The car made its debut at the annual MX-5 owners’ convention in the Japanese village of Karuizawa. The new lightweight special version is based on the S grade.
The car received RAYS forged aluminum wheels, each weighing 800 grams less than standard MX-5 light-alloy wheels, which saved 3.2 kg. At the front, the roadster received Brembo brakes.
The unsprung weight change prompted engineers to tweak the suspension, steering and ECM to improve steering response and throttle response.
With the advent of the new version of the equipment, the weight of the Mazda Roadster 990S was 990 kg.
The car will be sold exclusively in the Japanese market, but prices and delivery dates for such cars have not yet been announced.
Recall that the Mazda MX-5 of the ND generation has been rolling off the assembly line since 2015. The car is sold with 1.5- and 2-liter SkyActiv-G petrol engines with a capacity of 129 to 181 horsepower. A bunch of both is a 6-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission similar in terms of the number of speeds.
