The British automaker has unveiled yet another sportier version of its Bentley Bentayga luxury crossover.
Following the debut of the revamped Bentayga crossover and its more powerful Bentayga Speed, Bentley is expanding the luxury SUV family with the new Bentayga S. This is a sportier version of the crossover, but not quite like the powerful Bentayga Speed. Bentley says the Bentayga S is the answer to the needs of “a huge number of customers who love the dynamic performance of their Bentayga on the road.
One of the highlights of the new S version is the so-called Bentley Dynamic Ride system. It is essentially an active anti-roll bar using a 48-volt system that the automaker says is the first in the industry.
The system can respond in just 0.3 seconds, applying up to 1,300 Nm of torque to counteract lateral rolling forces when cornering. Bentley promises that the system, which comes standard on the Bentayga S, provides optimum cab stability and maximum tire contact.
Another upgrade over the standard Bentayga is the Sport Driving Mode, which offers improved steering, more responsive throttle and suspension stiffness by up to 15 percent thanks to increased pressure in the damping system. The new performance exhaust system comes standard with free flowing primary and secondary pipes. Last but not least, Bentley’s torque vectoring system has been recalibrated in the Bentayga S.
However, there are no updates under the hood. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine produces 542 horsepower (770 Nm). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 290 km / h. Bentley claims the Bentayga S can travel up to 654 km on a single tank of fuel with moderate traffic.
