Arquus Scarabee: the best SUV for the army?

The French company Arquus has unveiled the Scarabee military lightly armored SUV. Among other things, the novelty boasts a hybrid power plant, as well as control of all four wheels.

The American Humvee SUV can be considered one of the most recognizable four-wheeled military vehicles in the world. It spawned the iconic consumer SUV brand, the Hummer, but there is much more military technology out there than we can imagine. One of these machines belongs to the French company Arquus. It’s called Scarabee, and most recently the company showcased it in Abu Dhabi at IDEX 2021.

The lightly armored military reconnaissance vehicle has many unique features, but one of the most interesting is the hybrid propulsion system.

The SUV comes with batteries and an electric motor designed to give the vehicle an extra level of stealth during military operations with 100 percent all-electric mode. 103 hp electric motor can be combined with a 300 hp V6 diesel engine

Another interesting feature is the four-wheel steering. This system not only allows tight turns on the battlefield, but also allows the Scarab to jump out of cover and quickly retreat without making any maneuvers that would make it vulnerable to enemy fire. It’s almost identical to the feature offered on the revived GMC Hummer EV – it’s called “crab mode”. The interior of the SUV can carry three or four soldiers, and the powerful transmission makes it a fast-moving vehicle for a variety of purposes, capable of speeds up to 130 km / h.

Arquus introduced the Scarabee in three flavors: SAS Patrol, Reconnaissance, and Guard / Counter Terrorism. The Patrol version is equipped with a 12.7mm machine gun, while the Recon is equipped with a more powerful 30mm cannon. The Scarabee’s compact size also allows it to be suspended under a helicopter for transport or carried on a C-130 aircraft.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
