Audi A7: from liftback to sedan?

Audi A7: from liftback to sedan?

FineAuto

The Audi A7 will be available in China with two body styles to choose from. A traditional sedan with the L prefix in the name was added to the previously presented liftback. The design of the front of the two cars is identical, but the sedan has the original roof, rear and side doors, as well as the shape of the glazing. The wheelbase of the four-door has added 98 mm and is now 3026 mm, which is even more than that of the short-wheelbase Audi A8 (2998 mm). And the A7 L was just a little short of enough to catch up with the standard “a-eighth” in length – 5076 versus 5172 mm.

The vehicle was developed by the SAIC-VW joint venture and will be assembled at a factory in Shanghai. The circulation of cars in the welcome series will not exceed a thousand units. Also in the range are expected versions with a two-liter turbo engine for 190 and 245 forces.

The main competitors for the Audi A7 L will be the BMW Gran Coupe of the eighth series and the Mercedes CLS. The first one costs at least 968,000 yuan ($ 148,700), and the second, thanks to a 1.5-liter motor, starts at 576,800 ($ 88,600).

The First Edition is richly equipped from the very beginning. For example, the customer does not have to pay extra for air suspension with adaptive dampers and full steering chassis. Also on the basic equipment list is the MIB3 multimedia system with Audi Asterix technology linked to local online services.

So far, only the First Edition A7 L sedan has debuted, which will be the first to go on sale. These cars have a supercharged three-liter V6 3.0 TFSI (340 hp, 500 Nm) under the hood, working in conjunction with a 48-volt starter-generator and a seven-speed S tronic preselector. Four-wheel drive is also available as standard, but the plug-in quattro ultra with a clutch on the rear axle. Sales of the Audi A7 L model, which is unlikely to get out of the Middle Kingdom, will begin at the end of the year. Pricing has not been announced, but a 2.0 turbo liftback (no V6 is installed on the five-door) is asking for 573,800 yuan ($ 88,100).
