It will compete with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Rumors about a car named Audi Q9 have been circulating for a long time: since about 2013, in which the German manufacturer issued the rights to the corresponding trademark. However, the first documentary evidence that such an off-road vehicle is actually being developed appeared only now: our spies photographed the prototype in the vicinity of the Swedish Volkswagen Group test center.
A larger model than the Audi Q7 is being tested in tight camouflage. At the same time, you can see a wide radiator grille, elements of head optics, large vertically oriented side air intakes with fog lights, taillights.
There was a time when it was thought that the Q9 name would be given to a coupe-like crossover, but it seems that Audi is quite enough with the Q8 model. “Nine” will receive a more traditional shape, which will provide space in the rear seats and a roomy trunk. The standard cabin configuration is likely to be a three-row, although a particularly luxurious four-seat option may appear.
Audi Q9 should share the MLB Evo platform with all large SUVs of the Volkswagen group (Touareg, Cayenne, Bentayga, Urus). There is no confirmed information on the engine range, but previously it was reported about a four-liter 600-horsepower gasoline V8 – like the RS Q8, as well as a hybrid installation with the ability to charge from the mains. The 421-horsepower V8 diesel is not to be expected.
The largest Audi crossover can be fully declassified and brought to the market this year. When it goes on sale, it will compete with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
