Audi Hoonitron: a unique drift car for Ken Block

Famous racer Ken Block is preparing to shoot a new episode of “Gymkhana”. This time, the show will use a unique electric electric car from Audi called the S1 e-tron Quattro Hoonitron as a drift car. The novelty was created with an eye to the racing coupe Audi Sport quattro S1, which in 1987 was able to conquer Pikes Peak in the USA.

The Germans were able to develop a new car in just four weeks. The design team led by Mark Lichte worked on the exterior of the car. The drift car received huge winglets and large air intakes. The chassis is made of carbon fiber.

The four-wheel drive car is driven by two electric motors. The power of the electrical installation exceeds 600 horsepower.

Earlier, Ken Block visited the Audi museum called Audi Sport, which is closed to the public. As part of an agreement with the Germans, the American was allowed to drive several unique cars at once. So, Ken Block was able to ride a rally prototype Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, which was created in the 1980s of the last century. Before the American, this 300-horsepower sports car was driven by the famous racer Walter Röhrl.

Block also got access to a prototype RS 002 with a mid-engined layout. This car was also equipped with a 1.6-liter petrol turbo engine with 300 horsepower.

Ken Block regularly runs very powerful cars as part of his auto shows. For example, in Hoonicorn vs The World, an athlete competes in a drag (sprint) race with various cars from around the world. Most often, Ken Block uses a Hoonicorn all-wheel drive car based on the classic 1965 Ford Mustang muscle car. The car received a 6.7-liter eight-cylinder unit with two turbines. The power of the unit is about 1400 horsepower. The engine works in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission.
