Audi is developing new electric luxury coupe

The first model Audi, built on a new platform Premium Platform Electric (PPE), developed in conjunction with Porsche, will be a four-door coupe small size.

New model, first presented in March, appeared on official images released by the German company, showing a development strategy of electric vehicles, which includes the launch of 20 new environmentally-friendly models on four different platforms by 2025.

Platform PPE is designed for full-size models of Audi and Porsche – as traditional cars and SUVs and can be adapted to models of various lengths and track widths. It is equipped with a 800-volt system that could be recharged from the mains power up to 350 kW, and can accept batteries of different sizes with a claimed range of more than 500 km.

The platform is as standard equipped with a rear engine with the option of adding a second electric motor on the front axle providing all-wheel drive. The architecture can also use systems such as torque management and control of all wheels that are not represented on the platform MEB Volkswagen Group, which Audi is also developing a model.

Audi did not provide details about the performance of the new platform PPE, but says that it “is generally similar to the MEB”.

The new four-door coupe presented by the automaker, has the size of a Audi A4, with a design similar to the rapid A7 Sportback, and the grille and bumpers that are related to E-tron GT. The model is still in the early stages of design, and that it “may be the most important machine on the platform” because it will help to show the direction in which to move future models.

The company said that the car on “cart” PPE begins to be produced at the beginning of the next decade, and the Sportback model will be a model of architecture, which was designed to cover the wide range “from middle class to luxury”. It will be used as the basis for crossovers, SUVs, models and Sportback wagon. This suggests that ultimately it will be used for electrified models to a higher level, such as the A6 Avant, A7 Sportback, A8, Q7 and Q8.

To models the PPE will be joined by cars built on the other three platforms EV. Already running E-tron uses a modified version of the platform MLB Evo. Coming soon E-tron Sportback, and Audi has hinted that it may follow the third option, although it is still unclear what the body.

The upcoming E-tron GT will be a sister car to the Porsche Taycan using the J1 architecture is designed for high-performance models.
