The fact that Audi will take part in the Dakar in 2022 became known back in the spring. Especially for the rally-raid, which will take place in early January in Saudi Arabia, the German brand built a hybrid SUV RS Q e-tron, and its development was based on the experience of Audi participation in other racing series: for example, the hybrid received the RC8 2.0 TFSI Quartet from racing RS5 Turbo DTM and motor generators from a Formula E car.

Now the company has shared information and photos of the rally hybrid cockpit: you can see eight buttons located in front of the driver, including a speed limiter (needed in areas where a certain speed limit is set). A screen is attached to the steering wheel, which displays information about the tire pressure, the selected gear and the current speed. Another display is in the center, and a tablet with a GPS navigator is located in front of the navigator.

The Audi RS Q e-tron is a sequential hybrid for the Dakar. The internal combustion engine is not connected to the wheels, but recharges the high-voltage battery (and only at special stages and the stages between them). Two motor generators are installed on the front and rear axles, while the third feeds the battery while driving.

Audi will be the first manufacturer to use an electrified powertrain in a rally-raid. And this is not the first time the brand has taken such a step: Audi was also the first company to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans on a prototype with a hybrid power plant (R18 e-tron quattro).
