The developers of Audi R8 supercar next generation will try to keep to monitor atmospheric ten-cylinder engine. On this edition of Autocar said the head of Audi Sport Oliver Hoffmann.
“V8 engine – the symbol of the supercar, thanks to which it is a unique offer in the segment. It is for this motor to our clients and love to R8 of the current generation,” said Hoffmann.
The engineer said that in connection with toughening of environmental standards developers will have to significantly upgrade the motor and maybe make it part of a hybrid power-plant.
Earlier it was reported that the Audi R8 of the next generation, which will appear in 2022, can receive electric power plant. It would mean that the Germans will completely refuse to use ten-cylinder units.
In the fall of 2018, the company Audi introduced a redesigned R8 of the current generation, which got improved suspension and more powerful engines. The base engine supercar develops 570 HP and 550 N·m of torque, which is 30 strength and 10 N·m greater than the return of the old motor. Such car is capable to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. and its top speed was 324 km per hour.
The top variant of the Audi R8 changed the name from V10 Plus Quattro V10 Performance. In its power unit, in particular, has applied a new mechanism of distribution of titanium, whereby the output of the motor increased to 620 HP and 580 N·m (10 forces and 20 nm more powerful than its predecessor).
