The time of rumors and spy photos has come to an end: Ford has just officially announced that its new compact pickup, which we have been following in preparation for the past year and a half, will be called the Maverick. The manufacturer also announced the date of the premiere – June 8.
The 48-year-old American actress Gabrielle Union (“Bad Boys 2”, “Remember What Will Happen”, “Being Mary Jane”) will conduct the presentation. The star will show the novelty on her Instagram and TikTok channels. Broadcasts are also planned on Ford’s social media and Hulu online video service.
Ford has posted a couple of photos of Gabrielle Union driving a new pickup. Judging by the nameplate, she got the XLT performance. In the larger Ranger and F-150, this is the second-oldest trim, between XL and Lariat. Another teaser shows the Maverick lettering, in the same font as in the very first boot lid photo, which Motor1’s American editorial office acquired last summer.
According to preliminary data, the Ford Maverick is built on the C2 platform, which also underlies the Focus family and the Kuga / Escape and Bronco Sport crossovers. With the latter, it is believed that the pickup will share the turbo engines – a 1.5-liter 184-horsepower and a two-liter 249-horsepower. At the same time, the basic versions of the model are likely to be front-wheel drive, although they will also offer all-wheel drive. In the images we’ve seen so far, the Maverick has a four-door cab and a fairly short loading bay. The newest Hyundai Santa Cruz may become one of its main competitors in the American market.
