BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo was removed from production

BMW ceased production of one of their niche models – the hatchback 3-Series Gran Turismo.

According to Autocar, in 2020 between the sedan and wagon of the BMW the third series will be no more intermediate models: the production 3-Series GT has been completed. In may last year the then head of BMW Harald Krueger during the announcement of financial results for the first quarter mentioned that the hatchback Gran Turismo will not be a successor in the next generation. The reason for this decision is quite prosaic: “three” GT’s sales results is hopelessly behind the crossovers.

Combining features of a sedan, station wagon, Gran Turismo proved to be a niche model, even for the 3-Series. The end of the production GT series will become one of the future measures to reduce costs for BMW, along with planned from 2021 a reduction in the number of proposed power units. In the short term this will allow the group to save at least 12 billion euros.
