BMW and Mercedes will engage in joint development of the autopilot

BMW and Daimler have signed an agreement on long-term cooperation in the field of systems of automatic control of the next generation. This is reported by the press service of the manufacturers.

The strategic partnership envisages the creation of control systems with high level of automation and “speedy conclusion to the mass market”. We are talking about the autopilot of the fourth level, which can begin to apply in the BMW and Mercedes-Benz 2024.

This means that in large cities and on major highways, the machines will be able to move fully without the driver, but the motorist if desired or if necessary will be able to take it over.

The project will employ more than 1,200 professionals of the two automakers, which will unite in mixed teams. Teams will work at the research centre of BMW in Unterschleissheim and also in the technology centre of Mercedes-Benz in Sindelfingen.
