BMW AG sold more premium passenger cars last year than its main competitor, Mercedes-Benz. The last time this happened was in 2015.
“I am proud to announce that the BMW brand is # 1 in the global premium automotive segment in 2021,” Peter Nota, head of sales at BMW AG, wrote on LinkedIn.
As explained by Bloomberg, BMW has not yet published detailed sales data for the year – the final report will appear only on January 12. However, it is known that following the results of nine months of 2021, BMW delivered 1.7 million vehicles to customers, which is 112,000 more vehicles than the passenger division of the Daimler concern.
It also noted that the Munich-based manufacturer has been less affected by the global semiconductor shortage, which has forced car makers around the world to cut production.
