All-electric versions of BMW sedans of the fifth and seventh series, the development of which the automaker has already confirmed several times, will receive several modifications each. According to the German edition of Auto Motor und Sport, the top-end will get a three-engine power plant with a total capacity of 760 hp.
One electric motor will be located in the front and two more – in the back, like in some Audi e-tron S. and among them there will also be a particularly powerful performance from the BMW M division – with a branded V8.
The executive BMW i7 is promised a 120 kilowatt-hour battery pack. For comparison, the BMW i4 liftback has a battery capacity of 83.9 kilowatt-hours. According to earlier rumors, the next-generation BMW 7 Series lineup will include as many as three battery-powered sedans – indexed i740, i750 and i7 M60.
The premiere of the BMW i5 and i7 may take place as early as 2022. Their production will be set up in Dingolfing, at the same plant as the iX off-road vehicle. Among other things, the iDrive 8 infotainment complex with a single curved display should become a common feature of all the listed electric novelties of the brand, although this detail cannot yet be clearly seen in the available spy photos of prototypes.
