BMW has unveiled the second generation U06 compact MPV 2 Series Active Tourer. The first generation F45 car has been produced since 2014, seven years on the assembly line is a decent time, it’s time to go to rest.

The new BMW 2 Series Tourer is, in fact, a deep modernization of the old car. The characteristic proportions of the body have been preserved, the front-wheel drive platform UKL with McPherson struts in front and an independent multi-link in the rear, the supporting frame and wheelbase of 2670 mm.

In this case, all external body panels are completely original. The plasticity of the surfaces, the outline of the side line of the glazing, the design of the front have changed. In front there were huge “nostrils” of the radiator grille and narrowed headlights. External handles with a lower grip, which is unusual for modern BMWs: this is how we managed to make them flush with the body in order to slightly improve aerodynamics.

Overall body length increased by 32 mm (up to 4386 mm), width – by 24 mm (up to 1824 mm). The wheel track has increased by 25 mm (up to 1586 mm at the front and the same at the rear). This model has a 0.26 drag coefficient.

Inside is a single curved display, divided into a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch media system screen. The central part of the front console is turned towards the driver in the manner of old BMWs.

The lineup includes petrol versions 218i (1.5 liters, 136 hp and 230 Nm), 220i (1.5 liters, 156 hp and 240 Nm) and 223i (2.0 liters , 204 HP and 320 Nm), as well as the diesel 218d (2.0 liters, 150 HP and 360 Nm). All ICEs are combined with a 7-speed “robot”. A 19 hp electric motor is integrated into the transmissions 220i and 223i.

In the summer of 2022, two hybrids with support for external charging will enter the market. They are based on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, and the total power will be 245 or 326 hp. In both cases, a traction battery with a capacity of 14.9 kWh is used, providing up to 80 km of electric range.

Like its predecessor, the new generation BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will be produced at the Leipzig plant.
