Dogdore M2 current generation will go into retirement earlier than planned. And all because of the environmentalists.
At the end of the year, the Bavarians are rumored to be planning to terminate production and sales of BMW M2 (including the version Competition, and modification of CS). Reason – gradually tightening the environmental standards which the company has to follow to avoid the huge fines.
Sports car at the moment is the engine designation S55, which debuted in 2013. And, apparently, its characteristics ceased to meet the applicable in Europe standards, and to spend money on upgrading the power unit, the Bavarians did not want to.
However, this does not mean the complete rejection of the younger “emka”: BMW will produce and sell the coupe in those markets where the ratio of the amount of harmful emissions softer than in Europe. Accordingly, the M2 will not leave the United States.
The lack of desire to upgrade the coupe to Europe can be explained by the plans of BMW in the total update rear-drive models 2-series. The new generation coupe should be presented next year and will keep M-modification (which, however, will hit the market later that year). The fastest version for the first time, according to rumors, will get a motor S58, which is already installed on the X3 M and X4 M, but with derated performance, so as not to discourage buyers from the older coupe BMW M4.
While uncontested sports car will retain rear-wheel drive and a choice between six-speed mechanics and vosmidiapazonnoy automatic.
