The BMW company started the serial production of the hatchback 1-Series third generation, which premiered in late may. The novelty has embarked on the production line in Leipzig, which produced the cars of the two previous generations.
The new “penny” is a modular architecture, FAAR with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive axle, which replaced the previous scheme with a longitudinal rear wheel drive. At the moment, this chassis is already being used in BMW’s crossovers X1 and X2, and MINI Countryman.
It is expected that in the next few months BMW will produce up to 600 vehicles daily. The first car was the hatchback in the modification of 118i petrol engine, blue body color and a sports body kit. The machine will go to the buyer from Italy.
The top-end variant of the model at launch is the M135i xDrive, equipped with two-liter four-cylinder supercharged engine developing 306 HP and 450 Nm of torque. This is the most powerful serial “four” in the history of BMW cars.
The engine is paired with eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. BMW M135i xDrive is capable of accelerating from standstill to first “hundred” for 4,8 seconds. (with package M Performance – in 4.7 sec.) and its maximum speed electronically limited 250 km per hour.
It is expected that in the future BMW 1-Series new generation will be a more extreme version with the engine capacity of about 400 horsepower. This car will be able to compete with the Mercedes-AMG A45.
