BMW to stop production hybrid sports car i8 in April

In the Network appeared information about the intention of BMW to cease production of the hybrid sports car i8. But now the group has decided on the date and final decision.

The press service of the company BMW has officially confirmed that the latest hybrid i8 will descend from the conveyor in April 2020. The model was produced for almost six years. Now the conditional competitor for the Porsche 911 will go on pension, but a successor is not expected.

BMW will switch to a new line of electric vehicles and hybrids. Soon the market will introduce a compact crossover iX3, sedan i4, and a flagship SUV iNext. It is expected that new sports car based on last year’s concept Vision M Next, will appear not earlier than 2025.

A BMW representative also noted that orders for the car will be accepted until the end of February 2020. After this date the dealership will sell stocks, as well as to deliver the already ordered cars. Dealerships BMW have already started to offer the i8 at substantially reduced prices in anticipation of his retirement.

Recall that the original BMW i8 was presented as a concept with a turbodiesel under the bonnet at the Frankfurt motor show 2009. The first production model appeared in 2014.

For all six years of the BMW i8 is offered with no alternative hybrid setup: a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder paired with electric motor. In 2018, the model has been updated and the capacity increased from 357 to 369 horsepower.
