BMW Concept XM debuted at Art Basel in Miami Beach. It is the first BMW M hybrid and the first standalone model of the German manufacturer’s sports sub-brand since the M1 coupe.
As conceived by the artists, one of the most valuable aspects of the new concept is the design of its front part: this is how all future BMW M cars will look from the front. And we are talking about the new flagship, which for the first time will not be a passenger model, but an off-road vehicle. At the same time, the interior design of the show car is very similar to the iX electric crossover – already quite serial. A key feature is the curved driver’s interface screen, which combines instruments and an infotainment display.
The power plant of the BMW Concept XM is a 4.4-liter V8 engine and an electric motor, which together develop 750 hp. and 1000 Nm. With the engine off, the crossover can travel up to 80 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. Thus, it is not only the most powerful, but also the “greenest” among BMW civilian cars.
BMW says that a production model based on this concept will enter the assembly line in 2022. Its production will be established in Spartanburg (South Carolina) – in the same place where all the brand’s crossovers are made, except for the younger X1 and X2. Prices have not been officially announced, but they are expected to start above the $ 150,000 mark. For comparison, the aforementioned iX is estimated in our country at a minimum of $ 89,000.
