BMW will release an electric sedan i3 for the Chinese market

The BMW i3 as we know it today is a subcompact hatchback with a whimsical design and a sequential hybrid or pure electric powertrain. However, BMW is preparing another battery model with such an index – and this is a mid-range sedan developed exclusively for the Chinese market (it is planned to be produced there as well). The first photos of the i3 with a three-volume body were published in the public domain, they leaked through the database of the Ministry of Industry of the PRC.

This car was created on the basis of the usual BMW 3-Series G20, but in an elongated version, or rather, “twice elongated”. Since they took the BMW 3-Series Long produced exclusively for China as the source code and additionally increased the distance between the axles for it.

Judging by the pictures, the electric “treshka” has an original design of the “front end” – relative to the original car with an internal combustion engine, an original bumper with a complex shape, other fenders and LED headlights of its own configuration were used. Instead of the usual nostrils of the radiator grill, there are panels imitating them, behind which are hidden radars and sensors of the semi-autopilot system.

At the rear, a different bumper and redesigned lamp graphics stand out. Also noticeable are aerodynamic side skirts and streamlined rims.

The images show a variant of the i3 eDrive 35L with a 250 kW (340 hp) electric motor and air suspension. It is noted that the engine is of its own design and production by BMW.

The overall length, width and height of the BMW i3 sedan are 4872, 1846 and 1481 mm, respectively, the wheelbase is 2966 mm. The increase in length relative to the usual 3-Series Long is +43 mm, in the base – +30 mm.

The production of the BMW i3 Sedan will be located in China, the public premiere of the car will take place in March-April 2022.
