The Chinese company BYD continues testing a new modification of the popular Han EV electric sedan. This time, the company swung into a hard-top convertible.
Photos of the unique version have already surfaced on the web. However, then the car was covered with protective camouflage. Now the photo spies were able to capture the novelty in all its glory. As we expected, the Han convertible has lost its rear doors. However, it was unexpected to see a metal folding roof instead of a fabric one. Thus, an electric car can look like a classic sports coupe.
The Han EV convertible is equipped with an all-wheel drive power plant, which produces a total power of 494 “horses” (torque – 680 Nm). There is no information about the battery yet, but the sedan offers a choice of two options: 65 or 77 kWh. Depending on the type of drive, the cruising range is 506, 550 and 605 km, respectively.
This is not the first time for BYD to enter the convertible market. Back in 2009, the brand tried its luck in this field, releasing a very lurid BYD S8, with a front end in the style of old Mercedes, while the stern resembled one of the small-scale modifications of the Renault Megane. Of course, market sales were far from ideal.
BYD is a very prominent player in the Chinese market, which in the 2000s became one of the pioneers in the field of electrification. Now the company is among the best automakers in the Middle Kingdom, which naturally reflects on the ambitions of the management, who dream of moving Tesla off the pedestal. Already this year, the brand intends to produce 1.2 million cars, of which about 600 thousand will be pure electric vehicles, and the rest will be hybrids.
