The appearance of cameras for automatic recording of traffic violations did not affect the number of accidents. Thus, the largest number of speed control devices were deployed in Kiev and the Kiev region, however, from January to October 2021, the number of accidents increased by 19%, 51,556 against 43,303 cases in the same period in 2020. At the same time, the number of road accidents with the dead has significantly decreased in the region – by 16%, according to Opendatabot.
The greatest surge in accidents was recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk and Nikolaev regions. In both regions, the number of accidents increased by 24%.
The number of road accidents with victims in most regions of Ukraine has decreased.
The best dynamics is observed in Odessa and Volyn regions. In the Odessa region, the number of such cases decreased by 21%, and in the Volyn region – by 20%. In Kiev and the Kiev region, accidents with victims decreased by 8% (3122 cases against 3381).
The worst dynamics in road accidents with victims was recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil regions. The total number of such cases increased by 21% and 20%, respectively.
The number of road accidents with fatalities in 10 months of this year decreased by 9% compared to the same period in 2020. The best dynamics is observed in Zaporozhye (-27%), Kiev (-21%) and Odessa (-21%) regions. Ternopil (+ 31%) and Chernivtsi regions (+ 26%) scored the worst.
As previously reported, Interior Minister Denis Monastyrskiy announced changes to legislation aimed at improving road safety in Ukraine. In addition, the Patrol Police will strengthen control over the condition of the wheels of commercial carriers.
