The Chinese company Changan has developed a car air filter that provides air filtration in the salon at 97.7 percent. In addition, it retains bacteria, which is especially important in the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

The novelty has received the national certificate “CATARC CN95” Central Chinese automotive research center CATARC (CAQC), the rules of which are among the most stringent in the industry. According to certification, all air filters are divided into five levels depending on the degree of filtration they can provide. To get the certification center, the air filters should filter the air by 95 percent, and to provide a level of protection 99.99 percent of a variety of bacteria.

New anti-bacteria air filter of the class “0.1 PM”: this means that he is able to capture particles of size of 0.1 micrometer (0.001 millimeter). The coronavirus particles about 0.06-0.14 microns in diameter. However, the virus is transmitted by airborne droplets. The system can automatically clean the air even when the car is parked.


According to the automaker before the end of March all new Changan cars will be equipped with new anti-bacterial filters.

A similar system was developed by another Chinese automaker – Geely. Thus, the crossover Icon got a air filtration system that is able to capture particles as small as 0.3 micrometer. The car also received a certificate N95.
