China unveils cheap electric “Jimni”

In China, the sale of a new SUV has begun – the subcompact three-door Hengrun HRS1. The novelty is comparable in size to the Japanese Suzuki Jimny, even slightly smaller than them. That is, Hengrun belongs to a very rare format today. At the same time, the novelty is equipped not with an internal combustion engine, but with an electric power plant.

The HRS1 is 3560 mm long, 1610 mm wide and 1705 mm high. The wheelbase is 2250 mm.

The machine is driven by an electric motor mounted on the rear axle with a power of 32 kW (44 hp). It is powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery with a capacity of 28.2 kWh, the power reserve on a single charge reaches about 305 kilometers. The transmission is 4×2, but short overhangs and increased ground clearance should be a good help on off-road.

In China, a new product can be purchased from 49,800 yuan (about $ 7,800 at the current exchange rate). It is important to note that this is a full-fledged vehicle – with road access and a steel body.

HRS1 is manufactured by Hunan Hengrun Automobile, until that time its main business was the production of auto parts.
