GAC Motor’s plant in Hangzhou, China, on September 26, began production of the mid-size GAC GS5 SUV (2018) in the export version of the Dodge Journey, which was ordered by Stellantis Mexico. In the meantime, orders for Journey have opened in Mexico: the basic version of the SXT costs 555,900 pesos ($ 27,000), Sport – 615,900 ($ 29,900), GT – 645,900 ($ 31,400). The petrol turbocharger 1.5 (169 hp, 265 Nm), the six-speed “automatic” Aisin and front-wheel drive have no alternative. The start of sales is scheduled for November and does not apply to other Latin American countries.
The original Dodge Journey (three-row cross-van) was fired in the US in the summer of 2020, but the “Chinese” inherited the name only in Mexico. The adaptation boiled down to a new grille structure and replacement of nameplates. G-CPMA Platform stands for McPherson and Multi-Link. Dimensions: 4695x1885x1726 mm, base – 2710.
Journey / GS5 has LED headlights and lanterns, a panoramic roof, tires of dimensions 235/55 R18, 235/50 R19. For China, the crossover has become obsolete – the GAC GS4 Plus has been appointed as its successor. Mexicans are still interested in the Dodge Attitude sedan (2013 Mitsubishi Attrage). They are no strangers to badge engineering, because Baojun 530 is sold under the name Chevrolet Captiva.
The 12.3-inch digital tidy has recently appeared on the model (thanks to the newcomer GS4 Plus). The central taschkrin remained eight-inch, and the “climate” – two-zone. Nothing indicates the Dodge brand in the cabin, except for two stripes on the steering wheel hub. The two-tone finish is nothing new.

Formally, the Dodge Journey has moved into the second generation, although Stellantis has not promised Dodge any new models, except for a certain PHEV hybrid (2022) and an electric muscle car (2024). Cloning of other GAC cars is unlikely. The joint venture in China is still called the GAC FCA and, according to Reuters, sold only 12,288 vehicles from January to July, with a two-plant capacity of 328,000 units per year. Stellantis will ditch the Guangzhou site and relocate production to Changshu, where the volume will not exceed 164,000 vehicles per year. Carlos Tavares promises to present a fresh alliance strategy for the PRC before Christmas, which, among other things, promotes the Opel brand.
