On the first day of the new year, the Chinese division of Tesla announced the start of deliveries of model Y crossovers from a local factory in Shanghai, reports Reuters. Previously, this company produced only model 3 sedans.
The cost of a car in China starts from 52 thousand dollars, excluding subsidies from local authorities. The Agency does not specify how the Chinese car differs from the American one. It is possible that like the Model 3, the crossover will receive a battery based on prismatic batteries of the local company CATL.
The Model Y is the brand’s best-selling car in North America, but it is not yet available in Europe. It is expected that it will enter the market in a local version as soon as the Tesla plant in Berlin is completed. At the same time, since the end of last year, model 3 sedans have been delivered to Europe not only from America, but also from China.
Interestingly, according to many estimates, it is the Chinese Tesla cars that surpass the American ones in terms of build quality.
