Chinese premium electric vehicle manufacturer NIO has announced that it has shipped a batch of its ES8 crossovers to Norway, autohome.com reports.
NIO announced its plans to enter the Norwegian market on 6 May. The company decided to start expansion with the flagship ES8. The first specimens should reach the shores of Scandinavia in September. As for the more budgetary ES6 and EC6, while there is no talk of exporting them, it is likely that the management will make a decision about them after the successful sales of ES8. Norwegian consumers will be able to test the flagship ET7 sedan in 2022.
Some time ago, on June 11, the company announced the receipt of a vehicle type approval certificate (EWVTA) for the ES8 crossover, which is an important point for the further sale of the brand’s cars in Europe. The company said Norway is one of five European countries where NIO will begin selling in the next couple of years. Let us remind readers that recently there was information about the possible entry of the brand on the German market. The NIO boss was quoted by the German magazine Der Spiegel in May, according to which sales of Chinese cars in Germany should begin in 2022.
Interestingly, in addition to the usual export of cars, NIO expects to independently develop infrastructure in other countries. The first fast charging stations have been dispatched to Norway long ago and will arrive in August. In 2022, 5 cities will have such stations. It is possible that other electric vehicles will be able to use them in the future.
