First of all, the Chinese startup agreed with local companies to test an unmanned taxi based on the ES8 crossover
Chinese startup NIO has officially confirmed plans for expansion into the German market. This is reported by the topelectricsuv.com portal.
The first rumors about the appearance of the brand in the center of Europe appeared this summer. Then it was reported that the company was actively recruiting personnel to start its activities. This became known thanks to the vacancies published on LinkedIn, which received 173 applications in a few days.
This was preceded by the release of the brand in Norway. On June 11, NIO announced that it has received a Vehicle Type Approval Certificate (EWVTA) for the ES8 crossover, which is an essential point for the further sale of the brand’s vehicles in Europe. After that, the SUV can be sold in all EU countries.
However, most likely the Chinese will not have time to bring the brand out in Germany before the end of this year. So far, preparatory work is underway. In addition, the Netherlands is also named as a promising direction.
Interestingly, NIO has already launched a robotaxi in Germany based on the ES8 crossover. Intel Mobileeye and German mobile service provider Sixt acted as partners of the Chinese company. Now you can call your car without a driver using the Moovit app. So far, extensive testing of the service is underway, with a debut scheduled for 2022. If the project is recognized as successful, it will be distributed throughout Germany, and soon will be presented in other European countries.
