The new “barn” brand Baojun built on the basis of just-declassified liftback RC-5. However, in contrast to the relative, the universal, is expected to be only one motor.
The Baojun brand was created by the corporations of General Motors and SAIC specifically for China in 2011. At first this brand produced a simple cheap machines (these include, for example, a family of Baojun 310), but then it was decided to get outside ultrabudgetary segment. And so came the “prestigious” R-series, which today has officially introduced five models: the crossover RS-3 and RS-5, MPV, RM-5, liftbek RC-6 and RC-5 (the last “pyatidverka” not yet sold). But now the Chinese Ministry of industry revealed photos and specifications another premium Baojun wagon under the symbol RC-5W (W – Wagon). Recall that all “prestige” brands built on a modular platform R.
So in “the shed” turned younger liftback RC-5 position: front RC-5W repeats “source”, the rear lights also seem to be identical. The length of the wagon is equal to 4685 mm, 35 mm longer than the liftback, altitude, apparently due to rails increased by 27 mm to 1485 mm. the Other dimensions are: width 1806 mm, wheelbase – 2700 mm. That is, for its size a new family of Baojun close to the Skoda Octavia last generation (length and liftback, and station wagon Skoda – 4689 mm, wheelbase – 2686 mm). But the boot capacity of the Chinese certification body, alas, does not indicate (at Octavia – 600/1555 litres, the Octavia Combi 640/1700 liters).
Salon Baojun RC-5W is not marred. However, inside the station wagon probably copies the original liftback and the interior of the latter, in turn, designed in the style of kindred the compact MPV Baojun RM-5: here the same dvuhsvetnoe steering wheel, touchscreen control unit “climate” and the selector box; the air vents on the driver side and the passenger complied in the form of horizontal strips, and the Central ducts are made vertical, in addition, one of them shares a virtual “tidy” and a touchscreen multimedia system.
Liftback is equipped with a gasoline-liter “aspirated” and “turboservice” with the return in 99 and 147 HP respectively, of the box – “mechanics” or variator. The universal, according to preliminary data, got only the turbo. The drive in both models, of course, only a front.
The sales of liftback Baojun RC-5 is scheduled for the second half of 2020, “shed” is also likely to reach dealers later this year. Prices are not announced yet, but “piatigorski” Baojun will be cheaper Skoda Octavia. By the way, the new Octavia is just getting ready to enter the Chinese market, that is, it will probably be more expensive than the previous generation the previous liftback from the Czech brand in China today costs 99 000 yuan (about $14 000), and the universal there is only available as a “crossover” Scout at a price of 129 900 yuan ($18 300).
Outside of China brand Baojun not represented, which, however, does not prevent to sell its model in other countries under other brands. Thus, the Baojun SUV 530 in South America and the middle East is positioned as the Chevrolet Captiva of new generation, and in India and Indonesia is MG Hector and Wuling Almaz. Moreover, it became known today that Chevrolet will lead soon to the South American market and clone Baojun 510.
