Citroen C4: from almost, to the crossover

Citroen C4: from almost, to the crossover

FineAuto

The Citroen C4 coupe-shaped cross hatchback has changed generations in 2020, and, according to insider information, the automaker is considering expanding this family – the option of creating a full-fledged crossover, which can be called the C4 Aircross or C4 Sporty Cross, is being discussed. At the same time, the information in the French media is contradictory: some claim that the project to create a crossover based on the C4 has been canceled, others that the novelty may be presented as early as the end of 2022.

Carscoops suggested what the future SUV could look like: on unofficial renderings, the car was shown with a massive plastic body kit with blue Airbump branded overlays, “squared” wheel arches and a high hood line. At the same time, the artist retained the sloping roof, which is why the C4 Aircross / C4 Sporty Cross has become similar to the Nissan Juke crossover.

The new crossover is expected to fill the void between the C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross, which are 36 centimeters apart in length. This gap in the lineup was created with the departure of the C4 Cactus, which was discontinued last year. By this logic, the future C4 Aircross / C4 Sporty Cross can be considered the direct successor of the Cactus.

As for the engine range, it will most likely include engines with a volume of 1.2 to 1.5 liters, which develop from 100 to 155 horsepower. The appearance of a fully electric modification with a 136-horsepower electric motor is not excluded, but such a crossover will not have an all-wheel drive version.
