Classic Volkswagen Beetle converted to electric


The conversion of the “Bug” carried the Volkswagen Group Components.

The company built Volkswagen classical Beetle with electric powertrain from the e-up!. The show car will be exhibited at the stand of the brand at the Frankfurt motor show.

Electric beetle built by the Department of the Volkswagen Group Components responsible for the direction of batteries, and a partner of the concern firm eClassics from Renningen. It is equipped with an electric propulsion system from the new e-up! The electric motor and single-stage reducer is manufactured at the factory in Kassel, and the battery at the Volkswagen plant in Braunschweig.


Power e-Beetle is 82 horsepower. Traction Li-ion battery consists of 14 modules and has a capacity of 36.8 per kilowatt-hour. Its installation required the strengthening of the chassis and brake mechanisms. From a standstill to 50 kilometers per hour electric beetle accelerates in less than four seconds, to 80 for eight seconds. Claimed range of around 200 kilometers and a maximum speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

According to the Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group Components Thomas Small, the company is considering the possibility of alterations in other electric cars historical models. Work is underway on a platform for a T1, and among the contenders there is even a Porsche 356. For such conversions can use the platform MEB from production electric models.
