Toyota has launched a new budget A-segment model for the European market for testing, which will be the successor to the Toyota Aygo hatchback. Spy shots from the tests were published by Carscoops.
According to the publication, the debut of the new Toyota will take place in the first half of 2022. The production of the model will be established at the company’s plant in the Czech Republic. In the photos presented, the tall hatchback is hidden under protective camouflage. But now it can be noted that the design of the novelty will repeat the concept car Aygo X Prologue, which debuted in March 2020. So, a car with a high ground clearance is more like a crossover. The novelty will get massive wheel arches, spoilers and very unusual optics.
The new Toyota model will be based on the GA-B platform – this is the “junior” version of the global TNGA architecture, designed for compact front-wheel drive cars. The tall hatchback will be sold with gasoline engines. Also, the appearance of a hybrid version of the model is not excluded. At the same time, no electrical modification of the vehicle is planned.
In the small car segment, the successor to Toyota Aygo will join the European Car of the Year winning Yaris hatchback platform, and the Yaris Cross small crossover, which is slated for production late next year.
