Several years ago, Ford decided to remove most of its passenger cars from the North American market and focus on crossovers, SUVs and pickups. To some, this decision may have seemed short-sighted, but in reality the company does not intend to lose customers at all: a new entry level – Maverick, one of the smallest trucks in the United States, capable of attracting the attention of SUV and hatch enthusiasts.
Ford Maverick was built on the same platform with the Bronco Sport crossover. Its dimensions are 5×1.84×1.74 meters, the distance between the axles is a little more than three meters. It will only be available with a four-door cab, a five-person saloon and a 1.38-meter loading area. Thus, we are talking about a direct competitor to the newest Hyundai Santa Cruz.
The base Maverick is a front-wheel-drive hybrid with a 2.5-liter powerplant that develops a total of 194 hp. and combined with a variator. As an alternative, they will offer a two-liter 254-horsepower EcoBoost “turbo four” with an eight-speed automatic and optional all-wheel drive. A standard pickup can tow 9 quintals, a top pickup – twice as much.
Three trim levels are available – XL, XLT and Lariat. Already in the basic equipment there are:
- eight-inch multimedia touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support;
- 4.2-inch dashboard screen;
- Ford Co-Pilot360 set of safety systems and driving assistants;
- a pair of 12-volt outlets;
- 4G LTE WiFi modem;
- many storage niches.
For a surcharge, they will offer adaptive cruise control, an enlarged display on the tidy up to 6.5 inches, a leatherette interior, a lane hold assistant, rear parking sensors. The most off-road Ford Maverick – with an FX4 package that includes all-terrain tires, retuned suspension, increased ground clearance, extra underbody protection and mud and sand modes.
Prices for the new pickup start at $ 19,995. Acceptance of orders is open now, actual sales will start in the fall.
