Coronavirus brought down sales of new cars in the world


By the end of February the global automotive fell by 19.9 percent – were sold worldwide 5,077 million cars and light commercial vehicles, reports “AUTOSTAT”. Sales were affected with the coronavirus that causes the pandemic automakers have suspended production of cars.

Most of all it affected the automotive market of China, one of the provinces which has become a hotbed of infection. Local dealers have implemented only 282 thousand cars, which is 80.3% less than in February 2018. Sales also fell in Japan – 10.6%, to 423,5 thousand pieces, and South Korea – by 17.9 per cent to 97 thousand.

The European market suffered to a lesser extent in Western European countries have implemented the 1.1 million cars (-6,5%) and in Eastern Europe – 304,6 thousands, which corresponds to growth of 4.5 percent. In South America implemented 218,7 thousand cars (-4,5%) and in the United States – 1,357 million (+8.3 percent).


In the first two months 2020 sales of new cars in the world amounted to 11,565 million units, which is 14.8 percent less than last year.
