In mid-January of this year the Californian startup Lucid electric Motors has promised to introduce its first production model – the long-awaited Air sedan – at the auto show in new York. However, the coronavirus pandemic forced the organizers to postpone it until the end of summer – beginning of autumn.
The remaining option was that Lucid, following the example of other manufacturers, will be limited to online debut, but now the CEO of the company Peter Rawlinson announced that the presentation was postponed to August. He said this edition of the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
Thus Rawlinson, who in his time was one of the Vice presidents and Tesla chief engineer liftback Model S competition which aims Air, noted that Lucid Motors continues to hire employees even in the current crisis – the company has already exceeded 1 thousand persons. He also assured that the providers with whom the agreement was reached before the distribution COVID-19, still ready to run production.
Own factory in Arizona Lucid Motors started to build only in the end of last year, having received over $ 1 billion of investment from the Saudi Fund. The original plan meant that the production of electric vehicles will start in the fourth quarter of 2020, but now it may be postponed to 2021-th. It is also known that the serial Lucid Air will differ from concept 2016, but to say something more specific on this score is difficult because the final characteristic was to reveal just at the auto show in new York.
