It’s been a long time since Chevrolet is preparing a mid-engined C8 Corvette plug-in hybrid. And the novelty has already been caught by photo spies several times. This time, a camouflaged test prototype was captured near the Nurburgring.
The newest hybrid Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is being tested near the Nürburgring, and the prototype has not yet entered the race track. The appearance of the novelty was hidden by a protective film, but the false panels and covers disappeared. The Corvette E-Ray was photographed next to the upcoming Z06.
The machines are noticeably different from each other, which excludes the assumption of a high-performance version of the latter. The Corvette E-Ray gets very different tailpipes: double pipes on either side of the diffuser, like on standard Corvette models. The Z06 appears to have carbon ceramic brakes, while the E-Ray looks like it has regular steel brakes.
They also have different tires: Michelin Cup 2 R for the charged Z06 and Pilot Sports for the hybrid. The all-wheel drive E-Ray is predicted to be powered by a 650-horsepower hybrid consisting of a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine and an electric motor.
This is more than the same Z06 with a 617-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 engine produces.
A battery will be placed in the trunk of the car, which guarantees it a purely electric power reserve of up to 56 kilometers. The automaker could organize the debut of E-Ray in 2023, timed to coincide with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Corvette.
