Daimler can get a huge fine due to emissions of diesel vehicles of Mercedes-Benz. Fraud indicators in the environmental performance of vehicles involved, almost all German manufacturers, and one of the world’s top producers also got their number.
The parent company of Mercedes-Benz Daimler faces a fine from EUR 800 million to EUR 1 billion for violations related to emissions of diesel engines. The German automobile authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt found software recognized as prohibited under the applicable laws of the European Union. In particular, it was found in a Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class, including the popular C220 CDI and E220 CDI. It is reported by Auto Informant with reference to Autocar.
The software allows the diesel models C – and E-class under certain conditions on the tests to achieve lower emissions of NOx and CO2 than on public roads. Der Spiegel magazine reported that Daimler was ordered to withdraw about 280 000 vehicles. The German magazine claims that the public Prosecutor of Stuttgart is considering fines of up to € 5,000 per vehicle.
The representative of the Prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart said that the investigation into possible fraud with diesel Daimler continues and will continue until next year. Daimler also refused to comment until after the investigation.
