De Tomaso announced its return to business last summer, introducing the spectacular P72 coupe at the Goodwood Festival of speed. It was supposed that its release will be established in 2020, but, as it now turns out, the brand is still looking for a production site. And at the same time – a new home for yourself.
The company announced its decision to completely relocate to the United States: the headquarters, design Studio, Assembly site, and everything else will be located in America. De Tomaso is simultaneously negotiating with the leadership of several States, but the specific location has not yet been determined: the final choice will be made in the next six months. But it is already known that the production of the P72 according to the new plan will start in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Behind the revival of De Tomaso is the Hong Kong investment Fund Ideal Team Ventures, which also owns Roland Gumpert’s Apollo automobile company. It was the Apollo team that developed the P72, using the carbon chassis of its Intensa Emozione model as the basis. At the same time, the five-liter V8 engine was borrowed from the Ford Mustang: after refinement at the rousch Studio, it develops over 700 HP and 825 Nm. The only available transmission is a six-speed manual.
De Tomaso plans to symbolically limit the circulation of the P72 to 72 copies. Each will cost at least 750 thousand euros, while the company says that demand has already exceeded supply.
